The Journal of Commerce Online announced yesterday that truck broker loads rose 10% in 2010 over the previous year. The average margin was around 15%. An average means that some margins were below 15% and some above. This information was obtained from a survey by Transcore.
You might hear stories of making thousands of dollars per load with gigantic profit margins. While this may be true for some very specific loads, the general run of the mill loads will fall into the 15% range as far as margins are concerned.
If you are moving loads that pay you $2,000 gross, you are looking at a $300 profit. If your goal is to net $100,000 after paying the truck, you would have to move about 333 loads for the year or about 28 per month or about 7 per week.
This is doable but generally beginners do NOT start out this way and many give up too soon. If you want to learn how to get started on your path to making $100,000, go to: http://www.atexfreightbrokertraining.com
Let me first stop you right here - most people getting into freight brokering will never see this kind of money. Again, most give up too soon or many are in it without any experience or training. Give it time and above all, get the proper preparation.

Thanks Judi. Yes, we have to keep this business as honest as possible. Thanks for your comment. John

I appreciate your honesty about the income. I am a fellow trainer, and I don't like the training programs that say they guarantee a $100,000+ income. It is just not going to happen in the first year. Good site!
