In my last post on this topic, I mentioned how lurking enemies are ready to destroy us. And, indeed they are. But they are not the enemies in foreign lands. They are much closer and more subtle. For the past several years, I have been concerned for our economy, our institutions, our business environment, down to even the freight broker industry.
I have come to say enough is enough. With government spending trends and enormous deficits the dollar is losing value against other currencies. With a weak dollar, other countries will be seeking a stronger and more secure haven for doing business. Few American see the relationship between a weak dollar and the future of our economy.
What I am saying is that over-spending and multi-trillion dollar deficits are the enemies within. We don’t need to worry about Iran and North Korea. Our enemies are right here among us.
Some programs and services will have to be axed. There is no other alternative. Raising taxes is not the solution. Studies have shown that cutting taxes actually stimulates the economy and creates more jobs. The best safety net for individual families is – jobs and job security for employees and business owners.
It is simply not the government’s responsibility to try and provide for every individual from the cradle to the grave. This has NOT worked in other countries and it will NOT work in the USA.
Let me say that reduced social programs will be hurtful for many individuals. There are many individuals in real need. So, what is the solution in the face of impending budget cuts?
I will touch on this in Part III.
