Freight Broker Software

I just had an inquiry from a potential client asking what software programs would I recommend for those just starting out as new freight brokers. Here is the answer .....

NONE. That's right, NONE. Now I'm talking about freight broker or so-called dispatch software. You don't need to spend a nickel on this. We do recommend a powerful little database program to capture information on your shippers and carriers. But we are talking about a small $49 investment.

There are some EXCELLENT software packages out there in the market place for freight brokers. They have all the bells and whistles and will do everything except give you donuts and coffee each morning.

But you are looking at anywhere from $99 per month to $2K-$3K or much more for an outright purchase.

Here is why you don't need expensive software. Expensive freight broker software won't help you find business if you are starting new. And finding business is your number one priority starting out.

Trust me, I'll bet there are hundreds and hundreds of people kicking themselves right now for dishing out several thousand dollars only to watch the software rust by the wayside as they then realize - "I shudda got my clients first".

Oh, software is exciting at first. In fact, I LOVE software! I'm almost addicted to trying new software and developing new analytic reports, etc. But it is just not necessary for most beginners to think about making an expensive purchase for anything.

In our freight broker training, we provide about 30 "handouts". Some of these are templates that you will use to set up your operations. Two such templates are the Load Manager spreadsheets to use for your shippers and carriers.

If you have an extra couple of thousand dollars laying around to invest in software - then, go ahead. Make their day. But most of my clients don't have such a luxury.

One last thing,  in my Load Manager spreadsheets, there is one  technique for monitoring your progress that is NOT available in any expensive software - unless you download it to a spreadsheet. But, then, we already have done that for you - and it's all included in the training.
